Learning English is important for me. As it’s still a foreign language, I have to practice more.
Know the Perfect Person?
Know the perfect person? It doesn’t mean that I admit myself to be the perfect person. Next, in this writing I will tell you about myself. In addition, I’ve been teaching in SMPN 1 Pringapus, Semarang District since 2005. So, it has been almost 19 years. Moreover, I teach English lessons for different grades every year. However, this semester I teach the ninth grade students.
The perfect of Me
I have tried many ways to teach English to junior high school students. For example, many of them didn’t get English lessons when they were in elementary school. So, I look for the lesson sources by reading books and searching on the internet. Besides that, I adapt the sources with the students’ ability in accepting the lesson.
Nowadays, students can’t be apart from information and communications technology. Furthermore, I try to prevent my students from the negative impact of informatics using social media. Because of that trial I have learned how to upload and manage school social media and mine by joining some online workshops and self learning by watching tutorial videos.
A quote from Muhammad Al-Fatih that really affects me “Don’t say impossible to me before you die in trying”. This quote derives my efforts in learning English with the students.
Learning English with School Website
I’m one of the content writers of the school website. So, I write English articles there in forms of English materials, exercises, students’ worksheets, and so on. Next, the school website can be the source of digital literacy. Not only the teachers, but also the students will visit the safe website that is suitable for their age.
Additionally, I also have my private website using English. They are about English grammar, vocabulary, speaking function, and others. Writing English articles is a way for me to keep using and learning English.
Then, I use my articles as the source of lesson materials or digital literacy. Students also can practice English by doing the exercises or worksheets in the websites.
YouTube, Instagram, TikTok for Visual Students in Learning English
Moreover, visual students need media in forms of pictures or videos to help them understand the English lesson. For example, I post some pictures and videos to enrich students’ vocabulary. Because I have unlimited ideas to produce pictures or videos using this media, I must learn many applications to make them.
I make English greeting cards or short videos on some special occasions like teachers’ day, new year, mothers’ day, and others. Students can see the pictures or videos so that they can be accustomed to the English expressions.
Another kind of short video is quiz videos. The quiz can be the jumbled letters, words, or sentences. Students can guess the words, phrases, and sentences from them.
Learning English by Spotify
For the auditory students I use spotify to post my auditorial materials like storytelling or English songs. Then, I provide some playlists for students and teachers to use this platform. Both teachers and students can record themselves or take the recording from other sources and upload it in the spotify.
Many students are familiar with spotify. It’s a good way to use it to share English listening materials. Listening will help us to improve our understanding of the language and our pronunciation.
Make Learning English So Close
English is a foreign language for me and my students, so I need to make it closer with us in many ways. One of them is by using social media that can be accessed whenever and wherever we are.
So, who is the perfect person? I think the perfect person is the one who does the best for himself or herself and what they have done is useful for others. The perfect person is the one who passes the steps from “I want to do it until I do it”. Thank you for reading.
